Dr. Austin J. Sumner is our Professor and Chair Emeritus of the LSU Department of Neurology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He retired from LSUHSC-New Orleans in June 2013. He was born in Hokitika, New Zealand where he received research training in neurophysiology and graduated with his medical degree from the University of Otago in 1963. After completing his internship and residency at Wellington Hospital, he received his specialty board equivalent as member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and in 1973 he received the honor of becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (FRACP). In 1967, he was awarded the Nuffield Foundation Postdoctoral Traveling Fellowship in Medicine which he took up at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London, England. At the completion of his neurology training in England, he was appointed assistant professor of neurology at the University of California San Francisco and later was appointed assistant through full professor of neurology at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Since arriving at LSU as the Department Head in 1988, he has been involved in many aspects of the clinical, academic and research aspects of neurology. At a national level, he is a trustee of the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) Foundation and past-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the AAN Foundation, past-Chairman of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and a member of the American Neurological Association. He is also active in the European Neurological Society, serves on the editorial board of several medical journals and is a past-Editor-in-Chief of the AANnews. Dr. Sumner's research interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral neuropathies, neuromuscular diseases, multiple sclerosis, and clinical neurophysiology. Dr. Sumner continues to be a very active member of the American Academy of Neurology Foundation and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

As Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs at the University of California Irvine, Dr. Federoff has responsibility for the clinical, medical educational, and research missions. Dr. Federoff was recently appointed as Chief Executive Officer of UCI Health System. As CEO, Dr. Federoff oversees the administration of clinical locations, UC Irvine Medical Center, the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, and UC Irvine Health’s numerous primary and specialty care outpatient centers. Prior to UCI, Dr. Federoff was the Executive Vice President for Health Sciences at Georgetown University and Executive Dean of the School of Medicine. He is a professor of Neurology. Prior to Georgetown, he held appointments as Senior Associate Dean; Professor of Neurology, Medicine, Microbiology and Immunology; and Professor of Oncology and Genetics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, and as Founding Director of the Center for Aging and Development Biology at the Aab Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Founding Division Chief of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy. Dr. Federoff’s research interests include gene therapy and neurodegenerative diseases. He has published greater than 250 peer reviews and invited articles and serves as a reviewer for many journals, and currently serves on the editorial boards of five journals. Dr. Federoff served as Chair of the NIH Recombinant DNA Advisory Committee from 2007-2010. He Chairs the Gene Therapy Resource Program for NHLBI, was President of the American Society for Neural Therapy and Repair (2012-2013) and is President of the American Society for Experimental Neurotherapeutics (2014-2016). Dr. Federoff received his MS, PhD, and MD degrees from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, did his internship, residency, and clinical and research fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, practiced medicine at MGH, Albert Einstein and Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester. He is a Fellow of the AAAS and National Academy of Inventors.

Anti-Aging, Global Health and Chronic Disease

Dr. Kiminobu Sugaya has been a professor of medicine at the Burnett School of Biomedical Science, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida since 2004. He is Director of the Multidisciplinary Neuroscience Alliance, and a Chair of the Central Florida Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience. In addition, he founded Progenicyte, which is a biotech company that has licensed more than 63 patents and patents pending from UCF and UIC. His primary research focus has been developing regenerative medicines for neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease using iPS and adult stem cells. Dr. Sugaya earned his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. from the Science University of Tokyo. He received postdoctoral training under the direction of Dr. Ezio Giacobini, who is responsible for breakthroughs in cholinesterase Alzheimer's disease therapies.

Neuroscience

Thubi H.A. Kolobe is the Jill Pitman Jones professor of physical therapy in the Department of Rehabilitation Science at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Her research in early identification of children with or at risk for disabilities, efficacy of robotics in the early mobility of young infants, cultural and environmental influences on development, and measurement has been funded by foundations and federal agencies such as the National Institutes of Health. She is a co-developer of the Test of Infant Motor Performance for preterm infants, a norm-referenced test that is used worldwide and has been translated into several languages. Dr. Kolobe has served as chair of the Research Committee of the Section on Pediatrics, chaired a task force to develop a research agenda for the American Physical Therapy Association's Section on Pediatrics, served on a recent task force to revise the research agenda for the American Physical Therapy Association, and has been appointed to serve on the Scientific Review Committee for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health. Dr. Kolobe has extensive clinical experience in pediatrics and community-based interventions. Over the past 30 years, her roles in this area have ranged from direct patient care in various settings, clinical education, and staff development, to program consultation. Her consultation roles have focused largely on program evaluation and development for community-based programs that serve children and families with disabilities and on funded undergraduate and graduate training programs. She serves on the Evaluation Committee for the Oklahoma SoonerStart program, a statewide early intervention program funded through the Part C program of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Amendment Act of 2004. She holds a Ph.D. in pediatric physical therapy (with a minor in family therapy) from Hahnemann University.

Professor Krystof Bankiewicz is a leader in gene therapy to the brain who has brought multiple AAV-based therapies to the clinic. He is the Kinetics Foundation Chair in Translational Research and tenured Professor in Residence of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at the University of California at San Francisco (UCSF). Prof. Bankiewicz is also Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of Interventional Neurology Center (INC) at UCSF and co-Director of INC at Brodno Hospital in Warsaw, Poland. Prof. Bankiewicz has both industry and academic experience, is an inventor on numerous patents and has published over 200 peer-reviewed research articles. He has considerable experience in supervising multi-investigator translational programs and is a Principal Investigator on several multi-center, multi-investigator grants and clinical trials. Throughout his career, Prof. Bankiewicz has maintained a strong focus on the development of translational approaches to gene and cell replacement therapies, and he has displayed the ability to synthesize distinct technologies into powerful new approaches to the treatment of serious diseases, including brain cancer, Parkinson's disease, Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s diseases, pediatric neurotransmitter deficiency and lysosomal storage disorders.

At present she is heading the department of Neurosciences at Surya Children Multispecialty Hospital, one of the premier Institution for children in Mumbai in India. She has completed her Fellowship in Paediatric Neurology and Epilepsy from Maharashtra University Health Sciences at Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Hospital and Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai. She has had a brief stint at the University College London Hospital, a premier academic institution cum hospital in the UK. She has been trained in Paediatric Neurology at Birmingham Children Hospital in UK where she successfully completed her International Fellowship in Paediatric Neurology, Epilepsy and Neurorehabilitation. To complement her advanced training in Paediatric Neurology she has completed many prestigious International courses like British Paediatric Epilepsy Training Course, British Paediatric Movement Disorder Training Course in UK. She has also been trained for Ketogenic diet for drug resistant childhood epilepsies at the Asian Institute of Ketogenic Diet. Dr Torne has many accolades to her name which complements her meticulous and explicate personality. She is an invaluable Editorial Board Member of Journal of Neuroscience and brain Imaging in London UK. She was honoured by International Bursary from European Paediatric Neurology Society with an opportunity to attend one of the prestigious courses in Paediatric Neuromuscular disorder and Neonatal Neurology at Budapest in Hungary. She was invited to attend the valuable Movement Disorder International Winter School Course by Movement Disorder International society at Catania in Italy. As a feather in her cap she was invited as a Chief Guest in World Congress of Anatomist held in Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences in Karnataka and International Paediatric Conference held at Port Said in Egypt. She has to her credit many valuable publications in reputed peer reviewed index national and International Journals. She is an active Organizing Committee Member for more than 10 prestigious national and international medical conferences. She has presented many national and international papers in Cambridge, Birmingham, Italy, France and Hungary. She is affiliated to more than 15 eminent International and National Paediatric Neurology and Epilepsy associations. She was honoured as the Best Woman Achiever in Paediatric Neurology at the Indian Women Convention 2018. She is a recipient of MRCPCH UK, an internationally acclaimed medical qualification.

Her research interest is in complex paediatric epilepsies, ketogenic diet and paediatric movement disorder.

Dr. Uppal is a Doctor of Medicine in Neurology. He is the Medical Director of Uppal Neuro Hospital in Amritsar. His area of interests lies in Stroke, Epilepsy, Neuro Critical Care, and Movement Disorders. His research works include Non- motor symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease, Transcranial Doppler in Acute Ischemic Stroke, Epilepsy and Migraine.

Dr. Kita Sallabanda Diaz has more than 25 years of experience in the field of Neurosurgery. He currently works in this specialty at the Genesiscare Madrid - Arturo Soria, while he is an external medical consultant at the San Carlos University Clinical Hospital in Madrid. Author of Treaty of Radiosurgery (2012) and Guide of Brain Metastases (2015), has published in numerous scientific media of the Spanish and world scene. He is the current President of the Spanish Society of Radiosurgery and the Neuro-Oncology Committee of the Clinical Hospital of Madrid.
